What are the advantages of purchasing a casket online?

There are two significant advantages to purchasing a casket online from Caskets of Honor: price and selection. Because we focus only on custom caskets, and have a lower overhead. We are able to offer our customers a significantly lower price. It's very common to be able to save thousands of dollars by purchasing a custom casket directly from us, which opens up a much wider range of options for our customers.

Will my funeral home or cemetery allow me to use a casket that I purchased online?

Yes! The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that funeral homes allow you to use a casket that you've purchased online or elsewhere, and they may not charge you a fee to do so. As with any other major purchase, it's always a good idea to shop around. The cemetery will also accept any casket you purchase, so long as it meets cemetery requirements. (For example, the dimensions must fit within the plot dimensions.) This should be easy to confirm with the cemetery.

Are there any risks in purchasing a casket online?

Purchasing a casket online is similar to purchasing any other product online. While it's important to check things like the dimensions and shipping times, you can find great caskets at much lowers prices (and a much greater variety) than you would buying a casket in person.

How quickly will I receive a casket that I order online?

Delivery times will vary by the delivery option you choose, but some caskets can be delivered the next day, sometimes even at no additional cost. Our turn-around time from scratch on a custom designed casket is 48 hrs from the design approval.

Even if you're planning a funeral on a short timeline, the casket is not used until 2-3 hours before the viewing so you still have the option to purchase a casket online and fully customize it for the life celebration. We can usually get a casket to you with a flight from Dallas, TX and DFW Airport has direct flights to over 160 USA airports. We use all major airlines to deliver it to an airport near you and then we have a hot-shot courier pick it up from the airport and drop it off directly to the funeral home, or your personal residence.

What is the basic procedure to buy a casket from you?
Step (1)
Call us first and let us know that you are looking to purchase a casket from us. Let us know if you are pre-planning or if the loved one has already passed. Which casket you are needing and what size, standard, oversize, or children’s so we can make sure we have it available for customization and can deliver on time. If it is something we do not have in stock, we can usually get it the next day. We will discuss some design ideas of what you would like on the casket. Step (2) Go online and purchase. Step (3) We get started on the design process. (This all happens very quickly.) We will send you a proof of the design for approval and once approved the production of the casket is started. When the casket is completed, it is shipped out to the funeral home of your choice.

What payment types do you accept?
We accept Credit cards or Debit cards, Master Card, Visa, Discover and American Express as well as Paypal.

How is the casket protected from shipping damage when you order from Caskets of Honor?
It depends on the shipping method chosen. Some caskets are packed in a thin layer of Styrofoam, followed by a layer of bubble wrap. Over that are placed large blocks of hard Styrofoam which provide most of the support as well as 5" thick Styrofoam caps over both ends. Over that is a double-walled cardboard box and then another double-walled box over that. Some caskets are crated with plywood and and placed on a pallet. After that it gets placed for delivery by ground or sent to the airport for expedited delivery using the airlines. A hot-shot courier typically picks up your casket and delivers it directly to the funeral home in his van. We will email or call you to notify you that the casket has been delivered.

Do you sell to the funeral homes?
Yes we work with and sell directly to funeral homes across the country.

Do we have a selection of custom head panels?
Yes we do. The separate custom keepsake canvas head panels fit into the top of the left side lid. What is the cost? They are $195.00 extra. Generally 2-3 photo’s can be emailed and a proof is sent back for approval. Once approved the head panel is created and shipped out.

How does the lock work?
The caskets come with a 5-inch Allen wrench with a handle on it. You must unscrew a bolt that is in the right end of the casket, insert the Allen wrench in the hole and turn it counter-clockwise 15 turns to open. All funeral homes will have these Allen wrenches on and it fits everyone's caskets.

What is the difference between a half couch and full couch casket?
Half couch caskets - both halves independently open up but during viewing or visitation, only the left half is opened up to display the upper part of the body. With full couch caskets, the top is just one piece and the full length of the body is viewed during visitation. With the full couch casket, often they come with a foot panel that is removable and covers the lower body.

How long can the body be kept at the funeral home?
Sometimes the funeral home has refrigeration to help preserve the body past 30 days if necessary. Most people have visitation 3 to 10 days after the actual death.

When do I get Free Shipping?
We include free shipping within a 150 mile radius of our office using our own delivery trucks. The problem comes in when you need or may need the casket quickly. If the person is in hospice or has already passed, we recommend using the expedited 1 or 2 day shipping which costs more to get it to you quickly because we have to use commercial airplanes and hot-shot courier services to go directly to the funeral home.

Do we charge Sales Tax?
We have to charge sales tax if you are in Texas. If you do not live in Texas, you will never have to pay sales tax on our caskets.

Can we pick up the casket at your warehouse.?
Yes you can, with no extra pickup or shipping fees.

Will you ship the casket outside of the country?
We ship to other countries. We simply fly it to a major airport in your country of choice. Most countries we fly to in 1 to 5 days. We will know after we call the airlines when it is supposed to arrive. You will have to go through Customs in your country and pay the import tax before receiving the casket.

Will you ship to Alaska or Hawaii?
We do ship to Hawaii and Alaska but of course the shipping will cost more but the procedure is the same. Dallas, being one of the biggest airports in the USA, has direct flights to both Alaska and Hawaii. Honolulu and Anchorage are next day points.

How will I know if I will need an oversized casket?
Caskets come in different widths. If a man is less than 240 pounds or a woman is less than 200 pounds they will usually fit in a standard 24" or 23.5" inside width. We have other caskets that are 25.5", 26", 27.5" and 28" wide inside which also fit in a standard vault. We have larger inside widths of 29.5", 31.5", 33.5", 35.5", 38.5" and 42.5" that require oversize vaults. If you get the 31.5 or larger often you have to get oversized plots or use two plots.

What is the memory tube?
The memory tube is a small plastic tube 1/2 inch in diameter and about 3 inches long that screws into the end of the casket. Most 18ga metals caskets come with the memory tube.

Do you have wood caskets?
Yes we do.

18) Will your regular sized and oversized caskets fit a standard sized vault?
All metal caskets that are 24" to 28" wide inside will fit in a standard vault. Larger caskets need an oversized vault.

19) Do we sell vaults?
Not at this time.

What comes with a casket?
Everything you see in the picture comes with the casket including the lining, pillow, and overlay (material hanging down in front), Allen wrench for unlocking it, The Allen wrench used to unlock our caskets is the same Allen wrench used to unlock all the funeral home caskets.

What is the difference between 18-gauge and 20-gauge caskets?
Actually 18 Gauge is about 30% thicker metal than the 20 gauge caskets. Obviously the thicker caskets cost more. Our 18-gauge caskets weigh 210 pounds and our 20-gauge caskets weigh 170 pounds.

Will the funeral home store the casket for us?
The law says they have to accept the casket if they have the body. But it really depends on your relationship with the funeral home and how soon the service will be.

What are your hours?
We will be happy to take your phone calls from 7am-midnight 365 days/year Central time.

Can I pick up the casket from the airport myself to save money?
Yes, you can pick up the casket with a suburban, cargo van or pickup truck (if using a pickup truck, make sure you have a way of strapping the box in. It is 7'2" long and 30" wide and 25" tall.

Are your caskets Sealers (have rubber gaskets) or do they have locks?
All of our caskets are sealers and have locks unless you are pre-planning and choose a non-sealer.

Do we accept insurance policies? Not at this time.

Do we give credit? Not at this time.

Are our caskets guaranteed to not leak?
No one's caskets can be guaranteed to not leak for eternity. The rubber gasket that we have on every metal casket breaks down with the years and it is the same one used on the funeral home's caskets. When caskets are placed in a mausoleum the first thing that they do is to cut the rubber seal so that the body can dry out naturally.
